A safari in Africa is not just about seeing iconic animals in the wild but also about being immersed in breathtaking landscapes and connecting with like-minded individuals who have grown up on the other side of the globe. It is an unparalleled experience that goes beyond just seeing animals up close. Returning from a safari will tell you that it's an adventure like no other, with the sense of awe experienced out on the plains something you have to see to believe.
Here are 10 reasons why you should start planning an African safari and get a taste of what awaits.
To see “The Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth”
The Great Wildebeest Migration is a breathtaking natural phenomenon that involves thousands of animals traveling across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara, accompanied by predators and other wildlife. The intensity of predator-prey interactions and dramatic river crossings, with crocodiles in wait, make for unforgettable moments. This experience offers wildlife enthusiasts and photographers unparalleled opportunities to capture stunning images and immerse themselves in the raw beauty of nature. The sheer size and scale of the migration make it a "must" for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.
Satisfying The "Big Five" Goals On Your List
The "Big Five" are iconic African species, including the African lion, African leopard, African bush elephant, Cape buffalo, and black and white rhinoceros. These majestic creatures are a dream for many safari-goers, but their conservation status is growing due to decades of hunting and poaching. Supporting conservation efforts is crucial for their survival, and by visiting them in the wild and contributing to conservation initiatives, travelers can play a vital role in protecting these magnificent animals for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. Despite some reserves and parks hosting all five species, the conservation status of these majestic animals is of growing concern.
For the incredible cultural experiences
Africa's cultural diversity is a highlight of any visit, with communities like the Maasai tribes in Kenya and Tanzania and the San Bushmen in Botswana's Kalahari Desert offering unique insights into their traditions and way of life. Meeting these tribes is a privilege, often accompanied by traditional foods, songs, and dances. However, it's essential to approach these experiences with respect and sensitivity, choosing a responsible tour operator with established relationships with the communities. Responsible tourism practices prioritize cultural sensitivity, fair compensation for community involvement, and the preservation of traditions and environments. Supporting ethical tourism initiatives can contribute positively to local economies and preserve Africa's cultural heritage.
To support wildlife conservation efforts
Ecotourism in Africa is a growing trend that promotes wildlife conservation and supports sustainable community initiatives. Many wildlife conservancies are formed through collaborations between conservation organizations and local communities, ensuring the survival of wildlife and people while combating poaching and illegal wildlife trade. During safaris, visitors can visit conservation organizations or participate in conservation activities. Many lodges and camps also include direct donations to conservation projects in their packages. If visiting a conservation center is a priority, inform your safari expert during planning to tailor your itinerary to align with your conservation interests. Supporting ecotourism initiatives can positively impact wildlife conservation and community development in Africa.
To discover little-known species
Absolutely, Africa is teeming with a fascinating array of wildlife beyond the iconic big-game species. Exploring lesser-known animals offers a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of African ecosystems. Animals like African wild dogs, with their intricate pack dynamics, and pangolins, the world's most trafficked mammals, highlight the diversity of African fauna. Bat-eared foxes, with their distinctive ears and social behavior, add to the richness of wildlife encounters. Walking safaris provide an intimate and immersive experience, allowing you to observe smaller species up close without the noise of a vehicle. This intimate approach offers opportunities
To experience the exceptional birdlife
Africa's birdlife is a diverse and captivating sight, with a wide range of species from the African fish eagle to the graceful grey crowned crane. During the wet season, migratory birds from Asia and Europe arrive, adding to the diversity of resident species. The landscape transforms into a lush green paradise, attracting birdwatchers with its swelling rivers and floods. Exploring Africa's birdlife offers a unique and rewarding safari experience, offering a glimpse into the beauty of nature, from vast savannas to dense forests and wetlands.
For the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes
Africa's landscapes are diverse and stunning, offering a visual feast for travelers and photographers. The continent's terrain includes lush, forested slopes of volcanic mountains, snow-capped peaks, undulating dunes of vast deserts, and rugged outcrops overlooking valleys. These landscapes add an extra dimension to wildlife spotting, enhancing the experience and providing opportunities for capturing memorable photographs. The beauty of Africa's landscapes elevates every safari moment, whether it's lions silhouetted against the setting sun or elephants amidst snow-capped mountains. However, many of Africa's landscapes undergo dramatic transformations between the wet and dry seasons, such as rivers dwindling during the wet season and lush greenery giving way to parched plains in the dry season.
To learn from highly knowledgeable guides and rangers
During an African safari, guides and rangers are crucial in shaping your experience and deepening your understanding of the natural world. These knowledgeable individuals possess intimate knowledge of the native fauna and flora, offer valuable insights into life in Africa, and share fascinating facts about animal behavior. Their expertise enhances your safari experience in profound ways. Personal connections with your guide can be some of the most memorable moments of your journey. Engaging in conversation with your guide during lunchtime offers a unique opportunity to learn about their experiences, family stories, and the journey that led them to become guides. The guidance and companionship of these knowledgeable individuals elevate the safari experience, leaving lasting memories and a newfound appreciation for the wonders of Africa.
To indulge in luxurious accommodation
Luxury safari accommodations offer unparalleled comfort and extravagance in Africa's breathtaking wilderness. These camps and lodges are often located in prime locations, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape and wildlife sightings. Each detail is meticulously curated to ensure utmost comfort and opulence. Private butlers attend to every need, while lavish claw-foot baths and stunning infinity pools provide serene relaxation. These exclusive retreats also boast world-class amenities and services, including well-stocked wine cellars for gourmet dining experiences. Dining at luxury safari lodges is an unforgettable culinary journey, whether it's a sumptuous meal under the stars or a leisurely brunch overlooking the savannah. Indulging in luxurious accommodation adds an extra layer of magic to your African safari, creating unforgettable moments of relaxation and indulgence amidst the untamed beauty of the wilderness.
To escape the hustle and bustle of daily life
An African safari offers a serene escape from daily life, transporting travelers to a world were nature reigns supreme. The enchanted landscapes include sweeping savannahs, dense forests, and shimmering lakes. Each day brings new adventures and unforgettable experiences, such as a sunrise hot air balloon safari or dining under the star-studded African sky. The safari experience allows for a profound disconnect from modern life and reconnects with the natural world. The simplicity of life in the wild provides solace and a fresh perspective on what truly matters. The awe-inspiring diversity of wildlife and landscapes serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and preserving the natural world for future generations. Ultimately, an African safari is a transformative journey that rejuvenates the spirit, nourishes the soul, and instills a renewed sense of wonder and reverence for the beauty of our planet.

Shairanking F2022-06-09 Hiked Kilimanjaro (6 days) and went on a Safari (5 days Kilimanjaro Hike was amazing! Our guide (Mollel) and porters were all excellent. They were each knowledgable, encouraging and friendly. They took time to get to know us and understand our needs. They helped us feel comfortable with the challenge and enabled us to enjoy our trek from start to finish! Our Safari was equally outstanding! Again, we had terrific guides (Sam & Tembo). They, too, were knowledgable, accommodating and made each day a super fun adventure for all of us! They were incredible at tracking down all of the Big 5! They even found the black rhinos! The Value for the Money was unreal, as well. I would 100% recommend Soul of Tanzania to anyone who is looking for a once-in-a-lifetime Tanzanian experience! GreengatePeter2022-06-03 Unforgettable Safari and experience at its best Journey to Africa My friend and I did a 8 day Safari, starting in Tarangire NP, Serengeti central and South (Ndutu) with big Migration, Ngorongoro crater and Lake Tanganyika. All planning including our wishes and suggestions from Weguide Safari what is best for the time we were traveling were done with WhatsApp. The communication was very easy with very quick respond So we had an excellent Safari with weguide africa safaris with nice, safe and quite large accommodations and tented camps, including good food. I think our guide Mollel will be the best guide you can find. He has a very good knowledge about animals and their behavior, wildlife and Tanzania culture. Besides he is helpful, friendly and a very good and save driver. We have seen all Big 5 and a great number of other animals living there. He even could find animals hidden under bushes or in trees in a great distance and getting closer we could watch them very, very nearby. My brother with family did the Safari before us with Guide Kennedy. and we all together have the same opinion that this Safari couldn't be topped. It was my best Safari I've done until now and I couldn't imagine getting something better. So much wildlife!!!! I would it recommend to 100% GoPlaces659960834002022-03-07 SOLO TRIP TO TANZANIA SAFARI WITH WEGUIDE AFRICA SAFARIS ( 100% I RECCOMENDED WEGUID FOR SOLO TRAVELLERS) Tanzania as a safari destination has it all: if this is your first safari and your driving ambition is to get some amazing sightings and to rack up the big 5 as soon as possible then Ngorongoro Conservation Area is probably the best place in the world. Head for the Serengeti, however, if you have time for a longer safari and your goal is to take time to roam – moving as a nomad with the vast herds, or simply skitting across the savannah between the rock outcrops that are the lookout posts of the Serengeti prides. The Serengeti remains for me (alongside Botswana’s Kalahari) as one of the very best places in the world to experience the awe-inspiring vastness of the African wilderness. There is no feeling like being in the middle of the incomparable immensity of the savannah with no other vehicle in sight and a herd of wildebeest stretching as far as the eye can see towards the horizon. phillip2022-01-21 Tanzanian Romantic Safari for Couple Unforgettable honeymoon - safari & beach holiday Overall, great experience with WeGuide Celia has been extremely helpful in tailoring the itinerary for the safari and has assisted us all along the process. Our guide, Sam, and was always on time and truly did his best to show us all the possible animals within the visited parks. We've had nice lunches (with juice and wine) during the 5 days of Safari and the car was always sparkling clean in the morning when our guide was picking us up :) We would've appreciated our guide to be a bit more involved in the conversation (the answers we got to our questions about birds/animals weren't really detailed and we would've enjoyed talking/getting to know our guide a bit more, especially during our common lunches) but of course this didn't ruin our experience. Our safari was followed by a beach holiday in Zanzibar : Ceci has arranged a pick-up at the airport for us. The hotel (Z hotel in Nungwi) was also great and the honeymoon package made our holiday unforgettable. I can only recommend Soul of Tanzania and Tanzania in general. The safari is a magical experience everyone should have in a lifetime. Whistler2021-11-25 Great experience at Mara River (Serengeti) So nice to see and read about sam maasai guide. He was my guide when I visited Tanzania. I also had great game driving experiences, and yes, being patient definitely paid off time after time. We experienced elephants crossing the Mara River, and Sam explained how the matriarch makes the decision to cross and how the elephants would not all cross at once, rather cross in small groups of adults, babies, and elders. We stayed and saw group after group cross and come up the bak of the river directly beside our vehicle,. We also saw a group in the river stop and surround each other and then there was trumpeting by the herd on both sides of the river. Sam explained that they must have sensed danger like crockerdiles, and that they would reteat back; that’s exactly what happened and the trumpeting continued on both sides of the river for a while. When we returned to the Mara River Camp that evening, everyone was envious of our experience and commented how much they loved to have heard the elephants communicating. Like you and your son, we had great experiences every day. Love your photos and descriptions. It’s truly the trip of a lifetime ASHLEY P2021-09-25 Mikumi National park and Zanzibar island The Mikumi National Park is located in eastern Tanzania, some 100 kms south of Morogoro and 280 km west of Dar Es Salaam. It is next to the Selous Reserve and a few kilometers from the Udzungwa Mountains National Park. The wildlife includes monkeys, lions, leopards, panthers, elephants, giraffes zebras, hipos, etc. Approximately 360 different species of birds have been spotted. The park is very popular and is easily accessible from Dar Es Salaam. It is specially equipped for bird watching. Greenery includes the miombo forest which is dominated by Brachystegia spp. The Combretum-Terminalia forest is common between the hills and the plains along the river. In this lower part dominated by Acacia spp, Adansonia digitata baobab and Sterculia appendiculata and the top of gallery forest and riparian dense scrub along rivers Mgoda, Kikobogo and Mkata. The ebony Dalbergia melanoxylon, Sclerocarya caffra, Cassia abbreviata flabellifer and Hyphaene Borassus Ventricosa, Balanites aegyptiaca and Ficus spp are all very close to each other. They are common and important to elephants and baboona. A truly unforgettable experience. with weguide afrkca safaris Wilton Backer2021-09-25 "Zanzibar family trip excursion" "This was our first trip with WeGuide Africa Safari - I believe it's no coincidence that the Bradt Africa guides are simply the best ones on the market and that WeGuide Africa are extraordinary in the depth of their knowledge of the situation on the ground and in their capacity to coordinate and synchronise everything to make it an excellent trip for a family with young children In Zanzibar excursion . The guide was very good, and that is one of the most important parts of a trip like this. Ngorongoro and Serengeti are two fantastic places, and we had the rare privilege of visiting with very little tourism, really feeling and breathing the place. With my current experience, I will change the first part of the trip avoiding lake Manyara and the long transfer of the first day, and planning at least two safaris in the craterLoad more
